NorthLink Ferries can offer a wide variety of solutions to the carriage of dangerous goods by sea, and with specialist freight vessels – we can carry almost all types of hazardous cargoes.

Our specialist freight vessels are capable of carrying all other hazardous cargoes with their open-air weather deck.

NorthLink Ferries’ Responsibilities

To ensure the safety of our vessels and their cargo, and in order to comply with regulations, all dangerous goods are carried in accordance with the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code. See external link: http://www.imo.org/en/OurWork/Safety/Cargoes/DangerousGoods/Pages/default.aspx

In addition, to comply with local harbour authorities, all dangerous goods must be notified 24 hours before arriving at the port.

It is the customer’s legal obligation to ensure that all dangerous goods are declared before travelling in the method described below. Regardless of quantity, all dangerous goods must be declared.

The customer must also be able to present the dangerous goods properly documented, packaged, stowed and labelled in accordance with the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code.

How to Declare

Notification can be made by forwarding a copy of a dangerous goods note to our Customer Service Centre. northlink-frieght-helliar-at-sea-largeThis must be sent to us at least 24 hours before departure to comply with local bye-laws. The original declaration must be handed in at the port of departure upon check-in.
